2. Detailed Meaning of Safeenah

Safeenah (Safīnah, also spelled Safina, Safinah, or Saphina) is a rare, direct Quranic name for girls that means “ship”, “vessel”. While it is not commonly used as a given name among native Arabic speakers, it has been adopted as a name in non-Arab Muslim cultures, particularly in South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) and occasionally in East Africa or among diaspora communities.
Safeenah is used four times in the Quran:
Moses said to him, “May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?” He said, “Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience. And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?” [Moses] said, “You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order.” He said, “Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention.” So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, he tore it open. [Moses] said, “Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing.” [He] said, “Did I not say that with me you would never be able to have patience?” (Quran 18:66-72)
[He] said, “This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience. As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every ship by force.” (Quran 18:78-79)
And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers. But We saved him and the companions of the ship and made it a sign for the worlds. (Quran 29:14-15)
